Nervous Patient Sedation in Solihull & Sutton Coldfield
Nervous patients are extremely welcome at Smile Spa, and we work hard to provide a relaxing environment for all of our patients to help to reduce any anxiety they may be feeling.
Our waiting rooms are fully equipped with a range of relaxation features, including calming aromatherapy candles, massage chairs and soothing background music. Mood music is played in the treatment rooms. There are also televisions present to help patients take their mind off their treatments.
For very anxious patients, we offer two forms of sedation to make their appointments more comfortable and relaxing.
Oral Sedation
Oral sedation involves the oral administration of a sedative tablet, to facilitate the dental procedure and reduce patients’ fear and anxiety related to the experience.
This technique is useful for patients with milder dental anxiety.
Intravenous (IV) Sedation
IV dental sedation is when the sedation drug is administered by an IV cannula, directly into the patients arm. This allows the sedation drug to work quickly and provide a deeper form of sedation. The patient will remain conscious and responsive throughout the treatment, but they are in a totally relaxed state
What happens during the Sedation Appointment?
Once the sedation has been administered treatment will start once the team is confident that you are fully relaxed and sedated. Throughout the course of treatment the sedation trained nurse and dentist will regularly monitor your pulse and breathing, whilst ensuring that you are comfortable. You will be able to understand and respond to questions, but you may not remember much about your dental treatment for two reasons:
- Sedation induces a state of deep relaxation and the patient will not consciously be bothered with what is happening around them
- For a short period of time the sedatives can provide either partial or complete memory loss – rendering your whole experience of visiting the dentist as pleasant, calm, and relaxing.
Who is Sedation Suitable For?
